Reba McEntire rescued from historic building after stairs collapse

ATOKA, Okla. — Rescuers helped country superstar Reba McEntire and several others Tuesday after the stairs collapsed in a historic building they were touring in Oklahoma, according to multiple reports.

Images shared by KOKI-TV showed McEntire, 66, in the window of a building in Atoka after the staircase from the building’s second story to the third collapsed. The staircase fell onto the one connecting the first and second floors, according to the news station.

The fall trapped people on the second or third floor, KOKI reported.

“While my team and I were in Atoka, Oklahoma yesterday checking out an old historical building, a staircase collapsed,” McEntire said in a statement obtained Wednesday by Us Weekly. “Thankfully, no one was seriously injured. We were safely evacuated from the building thanks to the quick response from the Atoka fire and police departments.”

City Emergency Management Director Travis Mullins told People that McEntire was one of seven people rescued from the three-story building around 1 p.m. Tuesday. He said one person was taken to a hospital to be “checked out,” though no one was hospitalized as of Wednesday.

McEntire was checked by first responders at the scene and deemed OK, KOKI reported. She was touring the building for an upcoming project, although further details were not immediately available.
