Country singer-songwriter Dwight Yoakam and his wife, Emily Joyce, announced the birth of their first child Friday.
Yoakam, 63, and Joyce posted the news of their son’s birth to Yoakam’s Instagram account Friday. Dalton Loren Yoakam was born at 9:19 a.m. Aug. 16, according to the social media post.
“Like the lyric from the song ‘Waterfall’ that Dwight wrote for Emily on his 3 Pears album says ... Babies get born even in a ... pandemic lockdown.
“With great joy and happiness Dwight & Emily announce the birth this past Sunday of their new baby boy.”
The Instagram post featured Joyce as the couple prepared to go to an area hospital for the birth.
The boy’s birth comes months after the couple were married in March during a small ceremony in Santa Monica, California, People reported. The wedding had fewer than 10 attendees, seated 6 feet apart to comply with social distancing protocols in place due to the coronavirus pandemic, USA Today reported.
Yoakam was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2019.
