ROSWELL, GA — Nearly three dozen people were forced from their homes after a fire damaged multiple units at a Roswell apartment complex.

The Roswell Fire Department responded to the Aspen Pointe Apartments just before 4 p.m. Tuesday.

When crews arrived minutes later, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the building.

Firefighters began evacuating residents and workers who were still inside and unaware of the fire before working to put out the flames.

Three minor injuries were reported. A resident was treated for a burn to the foot, a police officer suffered smoke inhalation and a firefighter was bitten by a scared dog.

The fire affected 12 units and displaced about 30 residents.

The Red Cross is assisting the families who were displaced.
