President Biden signs bill to rename Plains Post Office after Jimmy, Rosalynn Carter

PLAINS, Ga. — Among a collection of bills signed into law over the weekend, President Joe Biden approved legislation that will rename the Plains, Ga. post office after late former President Jimmy Carter and the late First Lady Rosalynn Carter.

The U.S. Postal Service facility on Main Street in Plains will now be known as the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Post Office.

Carter, who was the longest-lived American president died on Dec. 29, roughly 22 months after entering hospice care, at his home in Plains, where he and his wife, Rosalynn, who died at 96 in November 2023, spent most of their lives.

He was 100 years old.

According to the White House, Bill H.R. 9600, “designates the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 119 Main Street in Plains, Georgia, as the “Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Post Office.”

“Renaming the post office in Plains, Georgia, in honor of President Jimmy Carter and First Lady Rosalynn Carter is a tribute to their lifelong service,” Sen. Jon Ossoff previously said in a statement.
