Lizzo and Megan Thee Stallion have often dealt with body-shaming comments from fans on social media as women in the music industry. Now, as Coi Leray aims for global success, her physical appearance has become a consistent topic of discussion.
On Monday, the "No More Parties" rapper started trending on Twitter after commenters talked about her wearing baggy pants and a bikini top at the 2021 BET Awards Sunday night. Some compared Coi's thin body type to Randall from the 2001 film Monsters, Inc.
After seeing the negative comments, the XXL Freshman began to wonder why everyone's obsessed with her shape. "My body is always trending. I don't understand," Coi tweeted. "In the Bible, is it a sin to be thin? Help me understand."
A quick look at more tweets shows several fans coming to Coi Leray's defense regarding negative comments about other women's bodies.
"Like it's one thing to not like her BET awards outfit. It's one thing to not care for her music. But the way yall attack her body is so gross," wrote one fan. "And if she internalized all of that and went and got surgery, then the blame for not being 'strong enough' would be put on her."
Another fan said, "Coi Leray is a clear example of how slim women that don't have the hourglass shape that gets body-shamed in comparison to Rubi Rose, (who is also slim) [and] gets praised because of her body shape."
